Statewide Perkins Consortium Initiative
Creating value for Nebraska’s career education system

Career Academies

LB 870 was initially proposed as LB 1144 which outlined the purpose and potential funding of Career Academies for the state of Nebraska. The funding component was removed and folded into LB 870 which was passed in Spring 2012.  Over the course of the next 9 months, the Nebraska Department of Education will craft a rule to address LB 870. In collaboration with the Partnerships for Innovation, NDE will work on a transparent development plan to include many stakeholders from around the state. More information will be available in the weeks a head.

The Postsecondary Coordinating Commission of Nebraska was tasked with competing a Legislative Study on Dual Credit and Career Academies in Nebraska. An advisory committee was established, which PFI was asked to participate.  The Legislative Study was completed in November and the entire report can be found here.

To strengthen connections between high school students and careers, communities across Nebraska have created Career Academies. PFI provides ongoing support to coordinators and directors as they create new and exciting programs for students across the state.
